“I’m a kayak, hear me roar” recap
FINALLY! This is the episode I’ve been wanting to see all season. Finally all cylinders were firing. I’ve missed the family dynamic all season. At its heart, this was always a show about family - Lorelai and Rory, their interactions with the Gilmores, the Stars Hollow family, the Kims, Sookie and Jackson, etc. To me, that’s what’s been missing lately by focusing each episode on Lorelai and Chris and their marriage.
Richard is having a tough time adjusting post heart attack. Emily has him on a strict diet and he’s miserable. Emily finally has enough and Lorelai jumps in to help her. The two end up drinking in his study and Lorelai tells her mother that she broke up with Chris. Instead of blowing up, Emily tells Lorelai she’ll be ok. The next day, the old Emily returns and barks to Lorelai that she has to cancel all the party plans. The complicated mother daughter relationship we’ve watched unfold over the past years returns.
It is Logan’s birthday and Rory sets up his apartment to make up for his lost birthdays as a child. Mitchum calls and wants to take them to dinner. While Logan takes a call, Mitchum praises Rory for her good influence on Logan and says they need to plan the next phase of Logan’s life together. Rory tells Logan later. And Logan’s newly purchased company is being sued for copyright infringement. Looks like trouble in paradise.
TJ, LIz and Dula stay with Luke for a few days with their house is being fumagated. They tell him they worry about him being lonely and offer to come back anytime. This was a sweet family story, too. I’ve missed seeing Luke lately. TJ tells him to stay away from Lorelai and Liz tells him to go after her. I think we know which one he’ll do.
Even Miss Patty, Babette and Kirk made an appearance last night! All in all, very good episode. What did you think?

I agree that this episode was much snappier than the rest of the season has been. I actually laughed out loud this week, which is saying something. I really liked Emily’s snarkiness and Lorelai’s willingness to help out, especially with the computer and things, but I was disappointed that Logan couldn’t exactly enjoy his birthday-palooza. And how sketchy is Mitchum?! But all in all - I enjoyed the episode. The trailer for next week has me worried, though. Lane is going to look ridiculously pregnant.

I didn’t like that Logan didn’t tell Rory about the phone call right away. That doesn’t seem like something that the new improved Logan would do. I thought the moment with Lorelai and Emily was so sweet, but I knew it would never last. I think it showed how Emily REALLY is, underneath the nastiness.
