Favorite Gilmore Girl Couple?

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

What was your favorite Gilmore Girl couple? Besides the obvious L&L. I must say mine would’ve been Jesse and Rory, they were just meant to be. Yes, I know he was the bad boy but he got her.

, ,

Well, it is an interesting idea

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

TV Guide Critic Matt Roush weighs in on a fan suggestion to keep Gilmore Girls going another year:

Question: By now we’re probably all aware of the gossip surrounding a possible Season 8 of Gilmore Girls. It sounds like Alexis Bledel is the only holdout, and Lauren Graham doesn’t want to sign on without Alexis. I know you have said that Gilmore should end after this season, but let me run something by you: Have they thought about continuing on for another season with the focus shifting to another pair of Gilmore girls: Lorelai and Emily? There are definitely a season’s worth of issues for them to work through, and I have always found their relationship to be much more interesting than Lorelai and Rory’s. Even Rory herself mentioned in the last episode that she is worried about how Lorelai and Emily will get along without her there to bring them together and act as a buffer. So why not give the fans a chance to see exactly how the two do in this situation? I think it would be great if the show shifted gears and explored the relationship between Emily and Lorelai, and even Lorelai and her father. I don’t think it would be un-Gilmore-like to take the show in this direction. It’s a way to get around Alexis not wanting to stick around and perhaps a way to get Lauren back on board. Plus, Kelly Bishop rocks and deserves more airtime!— Cory G.
Matt Roush: I think it’s time to let this one go, whatever Alexis decides. Still, the more Kelly Bishop the better, I always say (or I would if anyone asked), but a Gilmore Girls that skews older (the mom-grandma show) instead of younger doesn’t fit the CW brand (such as it is). It’s true that many of the truly memorable moments throughout the seasons have involved all three generations of Gilmores. Losing any one of them would be disastrous. But from the CW’s point of view, losing the youngest would almost certainly be a deal-breaker.

Aerie Tuesdays

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

What is the deal with this “Aerie Tuesday” crap that interrupts Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars? I just don’t get it. I mean, I do get that American Eagle has paid the CW money to sponsor the shows. And this gives them the awesome chance to let some airheads (”aerie” get it?) say clever things like, “Wow, that was a funny pop culture reference Veronica just made. What did it mean?” And “I think Luke and Christopher really got into that fight over Lorelai, don’t you?” It drives me nuts every single week. In fact, I usually let the Tivo get going for 10 minutes or so before I start watching so I can skip it. What do you think about those “Aerie Girls” love them or loathe them?

Happy New Year!

Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007

An Open Letter to David Rosenthal and everyone writing scripts for Gilmore Girls:

Hi. It’s a brand new year. Let’s start fresh, shall we? Let’s hurry that divorce up for our girl Lorelai. Once she’s divorced, don’t send her straight back to Luke, give her a little time to figure out that he’s the one for her. And while we’re at it, let’s go ahead and bring Lorelai’s spunk back. She’s been much too bland since Amy left. Spice up the conversations and definitely pick up a copy of at least Entertainment Weekly to brush up on those pop culture references. Two Gwyneth Paltrow references in a single episode is totally weak.

Snap Rory out of it, too. Hasn’t she always wanted to be Christiane Amanpour? Set her on that path. No more dying her hair red and crying on the bathroom floor about what is she going to do with her life. Figure it out and get her back on track. Speaking of Rory – she needs her best friend Lane. More Lane, please. I know it is too late to undo that twins storyline, but at least let us see Mrs. Kim interfering with Lane and Zach. And yes, Rory has another friend, too, PARIS. Paris has been one of the few bright, consistently funny spots on the show this season.

April – yeah, go ahead and ship her off to Arizona but give Luke visitation rights and all. The less of her the better. Speaking of Luke, start fighting for Lorelai! Stand up and do something about losing her instead of moping around.

As for Chris, sorry, but it is time for bye bye. He’s done enough damage and served his purpose, so send him away.

Where are the locals? We need more Miss Patty, Babette and Kirk. Heck, even a little Taylor wouldn’t hurt, either.

And of the upmost importance – more Richard and Emily and more Friday night dinners. I MISS the GILMORES, not the new Haydens, but the GILMORES.

Oh, and let Rina Mimoun write another episode or 9. Can’t wait to see what happens next –

What does critic Mike Ausiello think of this season?

Wednesday, December 13th, 2006

Gilmore uber-fan and critic Ausiello gives his take on this season:

Question: What do you honestly think about Gilmore Girls this season?— Jill Walker
Ausiello: The best compliment I can pay Dave Rosenthal is that it’s no better or worse than last season. On the plus side, I think he’s done a miraculous job of mimicking the Palladino style. Scene for scene, the show looks and sounds like Gilmore Girls (contrary to what the New York Times would have you believe). Unfortunately, DR has also mimicked AS-P’s occasional lapses of judgment, most notably the ill-conceived Lorelai/Christopher union and the so-far-pointless return of Marty. And don’t even get me started on Luke and Anna’s looming custody battle over April. I pray DR has the good sense to settle this dispute out of court. Bottom line: Given the dramatic power shift that occurred behind the scenes, I’m enjoying the season more than I ever thought I would. That said, I wouldn’t be crushed if our Girls packed it in this May. I think I’m ready to let go.

Merry Fisticuffs

Monday, December 11th, 2006

So I was out of town last week, but I wanted to be sure to rant about that last episode. WOW! It was a good one, wasn’t it? Overall, I really enjoyed it. We finally got to see the plot move forward. Luke is fighting for April and big news, he is maybe ready to fight for Lorelai again. Meanwhile, Lorelai is beginning to have serious doubts about her marriage. She doesn’t jump at Chris’ wanting to have a baby, either. Remember when she told Luke, “yeah, kids would really be good”?? The end is near, I do believe. I think we’ll see the party with a major blowout on the scale of last season’s party meltdown (Rory and Logan hooking up, Chris drunk, Luke leaving Lorelai). But I guess we’ll have to wait a few weeks to see!

I’m bored with Rory’s story. Why is her storyline so dull?

Is this the last year of Gilmore Girls?

Monday, December 4th, 2006

It’s only December and fans everywhere are already wondering if this will be the last season of Gilmore Girls. I certainly hope it isn’t. I’d like to see the new team turn this mess around and bring back the fun to the show. I miss the Stars Hollow fun, I miss Rory being fun, I miss Lorelai and Rory together. I miss Lane. I really miss Gil (remember “Hollaback Girl”??) I miss Emily and Richard and of course I miss Luke. If this is the last season, I don’t think there will be enough time to tie everything up in the way that fans would want. (I know you can’t please everyone.) I’ve read lately that The CW will most likely be inclined to keep the show if they possibly can becuase they don’t have a suitable replacement yet. But Lauren and Alexis may want to go. What do you think? Is it time to let it go or should we hope for another year?

Thoughts on “Knit, people, knit”

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

Ok, now we’re getting somewhere folks. Lorelai is painfully aware of how much of a sore thumb Chris is in Stars Hollow. She doesn’t even want to invite any of her Stars Hollow friends (save Sookie and Jackson) to the bash Richard and Emily are throwing her and Chris, Speaking of, where have Richard and Emily been?? I have missed them and they were sorely underused in this episode.

Back to Lorelai – she is starting to know she made a mistake, I think. I’m holding out for a Luke/Lorelai reunion around Februrary sweeps.

How funny were Paris and Doyle, dancing to “Hot in Herre”?? I was cracking up! Paris is the best scene stealer ever.

Poor Marty - he’s still in love with Rory.

And Luke is waking up, too. Instead of being passive, he is stepping it up to make sure he has parental rights with April. He was so sweet with new baby, Dula, it just broke my heart.
What do you think? Are Chris and Lorelai about over or no?

Logan

Friday, November 24th, 2006

So what is up with Logan moving back to New York. This whole website launch business doesn’t really sound like working for Mitchum’s papers does it? I can never decide on Logan - part of me loves him and part of me thinks he is all kinds of wrong for our little Rory. What do you think?

Last night’s episode

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

So what did you think? Of course I’m still not over the marriage, but I do see light at the end of the tunnel. It’s obvious that Lorelai was trying to convince herself that she did the right thing – not Rory. She knew that if she called Rory and Rory asked all those questions, she wouldn’t marry Chris, so she didn’t do it. She said after the last engagement she didn’t’ want to think, she just wanted to do something. Well, she did. I think we’ll have a few more episodes to get through before she changes her mind. And I’m so glad to see Rory finally stretch her wings and realize she doesn’t want Logan to pay for everything for her. Back to the independent girl we always loved!

Is it really over?

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

I’ve seen a lot of chatter on the net since last week’s episode where Lorelai and Chris got married. Most of it is negative. Some people are saying the show is done and some fans are refusing to watch it now. What do you think? Is Gilmore really dead now? Can the diehard Luke/Lorelai fans (like me) overlook this huge mistake and hang around to see what is next? Is the magic really gone from the show without Amy and Dan? What do you think? Are you throwing in the towel are sticking it out.

I’ll be sticking it out. I’m hoping the writers will work themselves out of this corner in a creative way. Some of the magic is gone, in my opinion, but on its worst day, Gilmore is better than most shows on television.

Luke and Lorelai fans’ worst nightmare

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

I am so disappointed that Chris and Lorelai got married. At least Lorelai looked a bit remorseful at the end of the episode. She was right when she told Chris it was too fast. They seems to be living off memories instead of the present and truthfully, Chris is her rebound from Luke. Lorelai desperately wanted to marry Luke and when he didn’t jump at her elopement idea she ended it. So here was Chris that wanted to elope and she did it. I hope they realize what a mistake it was. And Rory will be very upset.

Elsewhere I’m wishing they hadn’t gone in the baby direction with Lane and Zack. It just isn’t working for me. I miss the fun episodes with rehearsal and Sebastian Bach.

I’m torn over how I feel about Rory’s freak out. On the one hand, it seemed inevitable, but on the other, Rory has always been self assured and confident with what she wants to do (save for that dropping out of Yale debacle).

Unfortunately for me and all diehard fans, I knowingly nodded when Rory said, “I feel like everything is ending. I have no idea what I’m doing.”

Personally, I thought that line summed up most fans overall feelings about this season. Thoughts?

“Café All right, woo hoo!”

Wednesday, November 8th, 2006

Last night’s episode seemed very uneven to me. There were truly funny moments – like Kirk asking Luke to be his wingman, like Goose was to Maverick on Top Gun, then singing “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling.” That was classic. Lorelai’s rant on the French language and coffee in the first scene was funny.

But then there was April. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather hear Michel’s “incessant prattling” over April’s any day of the week. And that says a lot because I’ve never been a Michel fan. And April’s swim coach? WOW – horrible casting. I know they wanted a psycho, but couldn’t they have found someone that could actually pull off psycho without making the viewer want to punch the screen? And she didn’t seem like Luke’s type at all from the get-go.

And the silly subplot with Sookie and the vegetables was just distracting. But more importantly, it wasn’t funny. Overall, the episode didn’t seem to move the plot forward at all. Poor Lane – babysitting the Rory wannabe. And next week, we have “The Proposal” to deal with. Ugh. What did you think?

The Perfect Storm of Caffeine and Genetics

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

Even though it was a rerun, here’s my initial review of the episode.

My Girls are back. I have a lot to say about the series in general but will do so after the recap…

Lorelai wakes up to her mistake, Christopher, and hastily leaves his bed and heads home. There she finds Babette doing a load of “her intimates” and we’re treated to a classic Babette monologue. Too bad I couldn’t really enjoy it because of the previous scene of Lor and Chris in bed together.

Rory wakes up with Logan gone and finds a rocket that he left for her. She obsesses over what it means then heads to the Yale Daily offices to find Paris, being classic Paris- screening a kid and her mother before agreeing to tutor the girl. I love Paris; she is consistently a bright spot in an otherwise depressing situation. Rory then heads to Stars Hollow.

Luke stops by to discuss the previous night’s argument and Lorelai tells him it is over. He leaves angry.

Rory doesn’t want to talk about Logan to her mother and asks her about Luke. Lorelai says they broke up but she doesn’t want to talk about it. So they decide to not talk, but must find something to do to pass the time, so they end up with racquetball. After sitting on the racquetball court and talking about Logan (even though they weren’t supposed to) they begin to play, only to have Lorelai get a shiner immediately. Thus ended the sports playing.

Meanwhile, Taylor has set up a camera on the red light to catch lawbreakers. Rory bounces into town in time for the unveiling. Kirk drives Taylor’s car towards the red light and it begins to take pictures, blinding him and causing him to run into Luke’s Diner. Too funny. I actually laughed out loud. It didn’t even bother me that, hello, the camera is supposed to take photos on the OTHER side of the red light, to catch those that run it. The whole thing made no sense, but was still funny.

Rory goes home to find Lorelai cleaning out Luke’s stuff. When all is said and done the living room will have to be redecorated. Rory obsesses over what Logan’s rocket means and decides to go spend the summer with him in London. She hastily asks if Lorelai will be ok. (Let me interrupt here and say, nothing about that rang true. Remember when Luke dumped Lorelai? Rory CAME HOME FROM YALE to take care of her. She might have agreed to go visit Logan, but to leave her mother so upset, with a broken engagement for months, nah, don’t think so. I think the Logan trip would have waited. And yes, I know, Rory is desperately in love with Logan, but the core of the show is the Rory/Lorelai relationship, I just don’t think she would so quickly agree to leave her mom for months after such a serious heartbreak).

Lorelai goes to bed and Chris calls, wanting to arrange a date. She tells him that shouldn’t happen. The previews from next week show us she changes her mind. (Boo). Rory calls Logan and is disappointed when she finds out he only intends her to visit over Christmas. How will she spend her summer now? And why isn’t she in class? Shouldn’t she be taking classes in order to catch up and graduate on time with that lost semester? Continuity, people, look into it.

In the most heart wrenching scene ever, Luke comes over the next day with his truck loaded with gear and asks Lorelai to go to Maryland or anywhere and marry him. She begs him to stop, but he persists. Finally she blurts out that she slept with Christopher and in a blink, Luke is gone.

Here’s my thing – this was Amy Sherman-Palladino’s show. It was her baby, her creation, her world. It really breaks my heart that she isn’t writing this year. Sure she left a mess, with Lorelai sleeping with Chris, but I know she had a plan to fix it — just like she reconciled Lorelai and Rory last year. (Albeit it took and excruciatingly long time to do so). I know the current show runner Dave Rosenthal was with GG for a long time and should have the whole thing down pat, but I just wish we could see what Amy had planned.

I’m on Team Luke. Luke and Lorelai are meant for each other and that was set up in the pilot. I know that TV is like real life in that there is conflict, drama, etc. and if everything was perfect there would be nothing to watch. Well, my thing is – let someone be happy for a change. How much material could they mine from those two’s wedding ceremony? Bachelor/Bachelorette parties, Rory as Maid of Honor, Sookie going crazy with wedding planning, Davey as the ring bearer, on and on and on. How would a married Lorelai and Luke adjust to each other? How would April fit into their lives? How would Lorelai handle the step mom thing? Would they start their own family? How would Luke handle being a step dad to Rory? PLENTY OF THINGS TO DO once they were married. It just bothers me.

I know plenty of folks love Chris and I used to, I honestly did. But when has he ever followed through? Not one single time, every time they got close, he would bail or knock his ex-girlfriend up, etc. There is something to be said for the family to get together, but they spent years showing Chris as the absent father that would re-enter the girls’ lives, provide them some hope, then bail again and again and again. I’m so disappointed that it looks like they will start to date. I’m hoping it’s just a temporary thing to ease Lorelai’s mind. But if some of the spoilers out there are true, I personally am going to be really upset. And what about the preview of Luke next week, being so cold and saying Lorelai was the one that proposed anyway? I know he’s hurt, but wow. He’s spent all these years trying to get her, I can’t believe he’d let her go that easily. But then again, his worst fear did happen – Chris came back into the picture.

Oh and yeah, the banter was off. It was slower, and not as funny, it showed promise, but wasn’t up to par just yet. I hope they get it together soon or it will be a long season for the Stars Hollow faithful.

Thoughts on last night’s episode

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

Overall, not one of my favorites – it was just missing that zip and zing a bit to me. Where was Luke? Why was he only in the show for 2 seconds at the town meeting? Aren’t we supposed to be seeing his “journey,” too?

I didn’t really like all the Luke bashing. Sure, he messed up BIG TIME last season by not letting Lorelai know about April and then for not letting Lorelai hang out with April for that matter, etc. So I understand that Lorelai has a ton of anger. But remember, at one point, Lorelai said he was “the one” and retreated to her bed when he dumped her after Emily and Richard’s vow renewal fiasco. I know she’s still upset, but I’m upset that strong, independent Lorelai is jumping from Luke to Christopher without so much as a pause. And comparing Chris and Luke is like comparing apples and oranges. Where was Chris all of Rory’s life? Luke was there for much of it.

Aren’t they trying a little too hard to show the perfect happy family with Lorelai, Chris and Rory in the car grooving to “Come A Little Bit Closer”? Has he really, finally grown up?

What did you think?
