Recap

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

I have to say, these first two episodes back after that long break have been great in my opinion. Maybe its because I see a light at the end of the tunnel for the whole marriage debacle. Last night’s episode had huge plot lines—-

Luke got shared custody of April. This was after a nasty little hearing where Anna’s lawyer dragged out all his dirty laundry. But fought and he won. Hmm… wonder what else in his life is worth fighting for?

Paris returned! I love her. You know what, if they want to spin off a show, center it around her. I’d watch every single week. Paris is revved up for her last semster at Yale and is dragging Rory with her by making charts and plans. Rory seems less than interested. Where’s that dogged ambition she always had? I LOVED that Paris took action and helped Rory and Lucy patch things up and I’m glad that little feud is over. But where’s Marty? Is he really not coming back?

Sookie was acting bizarre. (Finally, we got to see her in more than one scene). It turns out Jackson didn’t get that vasetecomy after all so he knows she’s pregnant, she just doesn’t know it yet. When Lorelai forces Jackson to tell her what’s going on, she makes Jackson tell Sookie. Sookie freaks out and Lorelai has to calm her down. While talking about how great babies are, Sookie asks if Lorelai was thinking of having another and she says maybe.

But back at home, Chris finds Lorelai’s character reference for Luke in a drawer. Of course the letter reads beautifully, and Chris finally sees that Lorelai isn’t over Luke. He confronts her about it and she says she doesn’t still love Luke. But Chris doesn’t buy it. He accuses her of biding her time with him and simply using him as a rebound to get over Luke. Ouch. I actually felt sorry for Chris. It’s a shame neither of them figured this out before they got married in Paris. Chris stormed out.

Richard collapsed while teaching his class. Don’t worry - he doesn’t die, according to everything I’ve read. That arc should make for some great drama. We already know Luke shows up immediately and Chris is nowhere to be found.

So, is this the beginning of the end for Chris and Lorelai? Will Luke finally endear himself to Emily by being there in the Gilmore time of need? Will Lorelai finally see what a terrible mistake she made?

Because I Said So

Remember, Lauren Graham’s new movie “Because I Said So” opens this Friday, February 3. She costars with Diane Keaton and Mandy Moore. Here’s our gal doing a little press for the movie in LA.

Another year?

Sunday, January 28th, 2007

As I said last week, Michael Ausiello at TV Guide is reporting that they are considering doing Gilmore Girls next year without Alexis Bledel. It’s rumored that Lauren Graham wants to continue, but Alexis does not. I think it would be a bad idea to have the show without Alexis. While I must admit, Rory isn’t as endearing to me as she used to be, it just wouldn’t be Gilmore Girls without her. Now Kristin at E! is reporting that Lauren Graham will refuse to continue without Alexis. And Kristin reports that CW President Dawn Ostroff if prepared to do anything it takes to keep the show around for another year. These rumors are going to continue on until the show gets a pick up or until Lauren and Alexis announce their intentions to leave. We shall see.

Big spoilers

Friday, January 26th, 2007

Ok, we’ve got some good scoop courtesy of TV Guide. Enjoy or avert your eyes if you don’t want to know!

Question: You’ve been stingy with Gilmore Girls scoop lately. Tell the truth: Is it because you got in trouble after Whispergate?— Christina
Ausiello: Me? In trouble? Pshaw. Next to Isaiah Washington’s Golden Globes meltdown, Whispergate was the best thing to happen to my career. I thank the gods every day for giving me the gift of Whispergate. Heck, if it wasn’t for all the increased visibility that Whispergate brought me, a heavily imbedded Gilmore Girls source probably wouldn’t have come up to me at press tour and revealed that (Massive spoiler alert) David Rosenthal is seriously considering ending the season (or series?) with Lorelai and Luke not only married but expecting a baby. Which leads me to my next piece of scoop….

Question: Great job at the Globes, but you’ve been very negligent with Gilmore Girls recently. Please give us some more scoop that doesn’t involve the death of a pet!— Grace
Ausiello: Fair enough. The buzz in Stars Hollow is that the key to an eighth season may rest in Alexis Bledel’s petite hands. Unlike Lauren Graham, who appears to be somewhat amenable to the idea of continuing on for another year, Bledel is proving a tougher sell. As a result, Warner Bros. and the CW are allegedly developing a Plan B that would focus an eighth season on Lorelai, Luke and their new baby, with the occasional sweeps-month guest appearance by Rory. Wow, that sounds like a disaster.

Question: Do you know how Gilmore Girls plans to deal with Melissa McCarthy’s pregnancy?— Katherine
Ausiello: Scoop! They’re dealing with it by making Sookie pregnant for a third time. Not sure how Dave R. is gonna pull that one off, considering Jackson had that vasectomy and all. Maybe Taylor’s the daddy? I kid. I kid.

Do you want to see the show go on without one of the Girls? I can’t imagine it myself, but what do you think?

Pack up that chastity belt, Gilmore

Thursday, January 25th, 2007

Everyone has their favorite episodes of Gilmore Girls. I say episodes because it is IMPOSSIBLE to pick just one. I saw one of my favorites the other day. It was the episode where Paris and Rory have to work on a speech together. While over at Rory’s house, Paris tells Rory that she slept with Jamie and says, “So, what are your thoughts on that?” Rory’s reaction and their whole conversation is hilarious. During the broadcast of their speech on CSPAN, Paris breaks down and rants about not getting into Harvard. Other good moments in the episode are Lorelai and Max kissing in the coat room after the speech. (They had FANTASTIC chemistry, didn’t they?) After they kiss, Max says, “Apparently, I’m not over it.” Max made every guy after him pale in comparison (with the exception of Luke, of course). Remember Jason? Ugh. Hated him. Anyway, here’s Paris melting down. I wish it included the sweet scene after where Rory consoles Paris.

Santa’s Secret Stuff

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

First off let me just say that I think this is the last season of Gilmore Girls. Rumors are piling up that Alexis is the hold out and there is some talk of continuing next year without out her, but I kind of doubt that will happen. So, I know I’ve spent a lot of time fussing and complaining about the first half of the season, but I’m going to try and focus on the positives from now on and enjoy the show while it lasts. (this doesn’t mean I won’t be critical, a zebra can’t change its stripes after all).

So Rory comes home from spending Christmas in London with Logan. Rory, Chris and Gigi have postponed their holiday so they can all celebrate as a family. Lorelai explains the traditions to Chris and he tries to insert his own new traditions into the mix to no avail. Chris has never gotten the Rory/Lorelai dynamic. Those two are a force and its best to stand back and let them go instead of trying to force them to hang up gaudy stockings.

Meanwhile, Luke is fighting for April. He’s doing whatever he can to stay in her life, and he asks Lorelai to write a character reference for him. She agrees and struggles with it until she sees Luke and April at the mall exchanging a gift. Rory fondly recalls all the sweet gifts Luke gave her for her birthday over the years. And you could see the regret written on Lorelai’s face. She’s finally getting it, people. Luke is maturing and he’s been there for her and Rory more than Chris ever has. The new family dynamic isn’t going to hold up very long. Especially when Chris reads that letter next week – ouch.

Elsewhere, Lane is very pregnant now. How is this possible? Is this just so they can cram in the birth this season? I was glad to see Mrs. Kim, though. She is so funny. And Gil made a return, too. I just wish the supporting characters like Sookie got more face time.

Thoughts?

Great moments past

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

Happy Tuesday! New episode tonight! I can’t wait, in the meantime, I thought I’d post one of my favorite Lane/Rory/Paris moments from Season 5. Here’s hoping there’s more Paris and Lane in the last half of this season.

Info from CW Exec Dawn Ostroff

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

During last week’s TV Critic Association panels, CW Cheif Dawn Ostroff answered questions about the future of the network and the shows we love. I’m putting what she had to say about Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars on here (since I know there are some other VM fans in the house).

• Just asked Dawn how confident she is that Lauren and Alexis will agree to another season of Gilmore Girls. “We are talking to them,” is all she would say.

• Got in a follow-up about the likelihood of a fourth season of Veronica Mars. She loves the show and points out that it’s having its highest-rated season yet. But no decision has been made.

• Veronica Mars will go on hiatus for eight weeks beginning March 6 to make way for the Pussycat Dolls reality show. Mars will return with five stand-alone eps in April.

• On Gilmore’s creative direction this season, she concedes that “the first half of the season was a little rocky. [Dave Rosenthal] was painted into a storyline corner [from last season]. i think the second half of the season will be a lot stronger.”

• When the time comes for Gilmore to end, she’d like to give producers time to wrap things up. But it’s “premature” to talk about that now.

American Idol

Friday, January 19th, 2007

So what’s a Gilmore Girls and American Idol fan to do?? I HATE that GG has to go up against the ratings black hole that is American Idol. It just really sucks. I do have to admit, though, that I watch AI, but not every week until the top 10 or so. So I usually have the Tivo on GG and the VCR on AI. (I know I need a dual tuner). Anyway, the first night of AI, there were like 57 million people who watched it. Gilmore will take a huge tumble in ratings. But we still love our girls and I can’t wait to see a new episode finally!

“A Forest of Crazy”

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

Thankfully Gilmore Girls returns this coming Tuesday, January 23. Here’s the promo for the episode, “Santa’s Secret Stuff.” I didn’t see this until a day or two ago, but this promo has been running for a week or so. Enjoy!

Official Blurb for next week

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

Here’s the official CW blurb about next week’s episode, “Santa’s Secret Stuff.”

LORELAI MAKES CHRISTMAS WAIT FOR RORY’S RETURN — Rather than celebrating Christmas while Rory (Alexis Bledel) is in London over the holidays, Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Christopher (David Sutcliffe) decide to put their holidays on hold. Once Rory returns to Stars Hollow, they decorate several Christmas trees, do their shopping and even bake Christmas cookies for the first time as a family. Turning up unexpectedly at the inn, Luke (Scott Patterson) asks Lorelai to write a character recommendation letter for his custody battle over April (Vanessa Marano). Lorelai struggles to write the letter until she and Rory run into Luke and April at the mall and Lorelai suddenly remembers how important Luke has always been in Rory’s life. Inspired, Lorelai writes the letter and mails it to Luke’s attorney. Rory decides she will write an apology letter to her friend Lucy (Krysten Ritter), explaining why she and Marty kept their past friendship a secret.

Monday, January 15th, 2007

Ok, are you ready? If not, turn your eyes, stop reading right this second….This is the big one people. In 7.13 episode this season, Lorelai will end her marriage with Chris! Or at least that is the rumor. It sounds about right to me since February is sweeps month. I can’t wait to see the rest of the season unfold starting next week!

Congratulations to Melissa McCarthy!

Friday, January 12th, 2007

Melissa McCarthy, who plays Sookie on Gilmore Girls, is expecting her first child with husband Ben Falcone. (You may know Ben from “Joey” - he played weird neighbor Howard). The baby is due in May. So maybe that’s why she hasn’t been in the show as much? They didn’t want to write in another baby for Sookie and Jackson? Interesting. Here’s what People Magazine has to say:

“We are so excited about the baby,” McCarthy tells PEOPLE. “I’m hoping the baby has a lot of Ben’s calm traits and less of my spazzy ones.”

McCarthy plays chef Sookie St. James on the CW show. She is getting ready to head to the Sundance Film Festival to showcase her new film The Nines also starring Ryan Reynolds. Falcone, formerly of Joey, recently produced and stars in the independent film Polk Valley.

Congrats to Melissa and Ben! And I can’t wait to check out her movie with Ryan Reynolds! And more Sookie - Lorelai needs her best friend.
